4 Signs Your Air Conditioner Is Failing

Why does it seem like air conditioners always fail on the hottest days of the year?  Well, obviously they wouldn’t be likely to fail on cool days because most people are not using their air conditioners.  Air conditioners run almost constantly during the most uncomfortably hot days during the year.  When they are under stress, they are more likely to fail.

How To Tell If Your AC Is Broken?

Fortunately, AC units often provide us with warning signs when they are beginning to fail.  Those who heed these warnings are often able to schedule an installation of a new air conditioning unit so that they are never left without the comfort felt by air conditioners on the hottest days.  At A Quality HVAC, we believe that there are 4 important signs to look for when trying to determine if your air conditioner is close to failure.  When one or more of these signs are present, it might be time to look for a new air conditioner.

When To Replace An Air Conditioner

  • Grinding or screeching - When bearings wear out, all sorts of noises can be created by your air conditioner.  Pay attention to these sounds.  While a bearing and other internal parts can typically be replaced, it usually signals that the air conditioner is beginning to fail.
  • Air conditioner leaks refrigerant - While this can happen from time to time, air conditioners should hold the refrigerant without repeated leaks.  If your air conditioner needs an annual coolant, perhaps it is time to consider other options.
  • Blowing warm air - When air conditioners blow warm air, there could be a variety of causes, but generally, this is a sign of a failing air conditioner.
  • Blown fuse/circuit - If your air conditioner results in a blown fuse or tripped circuit, perhaps it is no longer running properly and is creating an undue burden on the electrical system.
